and Dominican Nicaragua
Appearance (0-20): I was greeted by a light brown wrapper that showed somewhat of an oily tint to it. No major blemishes at all, but there are some minor veins. I’m a fan of the band itself, which has iconic smoker’s portraits on it. Pretty nifty, and a good idea since this is called the icon. I could have done without the additional gold band on the bottom, but it really didn’t have much influence on my feeling on the appearance.
Construction (0-20): The Icon is packed well – it seems tight but has enough give that you can tell will allow for a good draw. The tobacco seems to be evenly distributed, which should lead to a nice even burn. Lighting went well, as the pull was perfect. Smooth easy draw. Burned evenly as expected, and remained cool throughout the smoke. The ash remained on there until about halfway through the cigar, then through almost its entire finish.
Strength (0-20): Nowhere near the strength I was hoping for, as I believe this one falls closer to the mild-medium scale. Its nothing that holds much “oomph” but it would be a decent cigar to smoke as a Sunday morning type with a some coffee.
Flavor (0-20):.Small hints of wood and spice would roll over the tongue pretty prevalently, but it seemed like this cigar was dominated by a rather mellow tobacco taste. There was an alarming lack of complexity or differentiation of flavors, as many times the wood and spice hints were completely hidden. Very disappointing.
Value (0-20): I don’t think I would pick this one up for the normal $4 retail. In fact… I know I wouldn’t. There are just too many better tasting cigars in the $4 pricepoint. However, in a mixed pack or perhaps for a cheaper price, I wouldn’t mind having a few of these around.
Additional Notes: The Dalmore 12 scotch!
Overall (0-100): The stick isn’t an awful one by any means, but the price is a little bit higher than I would like it to be at this time. The flavor is rather underwhelming… but could be perfect for someone who is just beginning to smoke cigars. Not something I would pick up myself, but in the same I wouldn’t turn it down if it was handed to me.
