Drew Estate Announces the Drew Estate Lounge at BB&T Center and the “Year of the Rat” Commemorative Cigar

Miami, FL – Drew Estate announced today that a Drew Estate Lounge will open at the BB&T Center in Sunrise, Fla., home of the National Hockey League’s Florida Panthers. This new Drew Estate Lounge is a major milestone in the company’s Lounge Program, officially placing Drew Estate in a professional sports arena for the first time.

“This new lounge brings the Rebirth of Cigars to a broad new audience of hockey fans at the BB&T Center. On a personal level, I am a huge fan of the Florida Panthers. I became a season ticket holder this year and have been so impressed with the ownership, their management of the team and the family environment that is reminiscent of the Drew Estate’s culture, so this is especially exciting for me,” Drew Estate President Michael Cellucci said. “We’re excited to join forces with the BB&T Center for this new chapter in Drew Estate’s Lounge program.”

“Drew Estate was our first choice when partnering with a cigar company. What we expected was a cool brand with creative execution; what we didn’t expect was a friendship with a group of people we so admire and with whom we absolutely love spending time,” Florida Panthers Executive Vice President Charlie Turano said. “The Drew Estate Lounge at the BB&T Center is a special place.”

Drew Estate also announced a new cigar called the “Year of the Rat”. The new cigar will be joining the ultra-premium Liga Privada Unico Serie line and is a commemorative cigar celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Florida Panthers 1996 Stanley Cup team. This cigar will launch April 1st and will only be available for sale at this Drew Estate Lounge.

The new “Year of the Rat” cigars presented in a 5-1/2 x 46 vitola featuring the iconic fan tail featured on many Unico Serie cigars. The cigar will feature a Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper with a Brazilian binder and Nicaraguan and Honduran fillers. The cigar will be packaged in 10-count boxes and will have an MSRP of $14.00.

“Our Liga Privada Unico Serie line of cigars is reserved for our most exclusive, limited cigars. We wanted to create something extra special to commemorate our new partnership with the Florida Panthers and we believe the new ‘Year of the Rat’ expresses our sense of friendship with the team at the BB&T Center,” Drew Estate President Michael Cellucci said.

Asylum Lobotomy Toro

Country: Nicaragua
Wrapper: Nicaragua
Filler / Binder: Nicaragua
Length: 6
Ring: 50
Cost: $4.50

Background: Another Famous Smoke Shop exclusive was passed to me to give a try, and this one comes straight from the Asylum. Previous cigars from them have sometimes been a hit, and sometimes been a miss – but I can say for certain we enjoyed the Straight Jacket. So how does this one compare?

Appearance (0-20):  The Lobotomy, aside from having a pretty cool name, also has a cool band on the stick. A black band with white graphics shows a skull with an intricately made brain at the top. Just below the skull are the instruments to perform said lobotomy. Beneath the label is a nice looking cigar, albeit a little rugged overall. There are some slight veins but nothing to be too alarmed about. It’s a good look.
Score: 18

Construction (0-20): Feeling along the stick reveals a couple of small areas that feel slightly loose. It’s a little worrisome, but I am not convinced of any kind of issues just yet. The wrap is pretty tight and the foot looks solid. The cut doesn’t ease my concern though, as there is more debris than I would prefer. Still, I forge on and take a few prelit puffs. It’s actually nearly perfect, despite the other potential issues I mentioned. The initial light goes just fine, and actually the draw was perfect the entire time. Unfortunately the burn was a bit jagged.
Score: 14

Strength (0-20): Medium to full and to be honest it strikes that range very well. It actually begins at the high end of the range and slowly tapers down from there.
Score: 18

Flavor (0-20): The kinds of things that you think about when looking at a Nicaraguan puro cigar are present here. It opens up with a bit of heavy handed spices, especially a peppery bite. They mix in well with a cedar and leather backdrop that continues pretty well through the first half. As the second half begins, the leather fades back and leaves room for an earthiness and just a slight sweetness. That same flavor remains consistent, along with the pepper and cedar, through the end.
Score: 17

Value (0-20):  $4.50 for a single Nicaraguan puro like this is a really nice snag, and the prices drop even further for the 5 pack and box prices….
Score: 18

Additional Notes: Paired with water. Provided by Famous Smoke Shop.

Overall (0-100): Let’s get right down to brass tacks on this one. Asylum misses the mark on the construction area. But if you can get beyond that, for the price being under $5, there are some really nice peppery and cedar flavors that are prominent throughout with additional undertones of leather, earth, and sweetness. While not absurdly complex, it’s nicely balanced. The medium to full strength merges in perfectly with the flavor profile too. And when looking around it sticks out - The design of the bands, per most Asylum cigars, is really interesting. I personally plan on snagging a few extra of these because for the price – it’s worth it to keep them around. Solid offering.
Score: 85

Davidoff launches its new Golf Scorecard Edition 2016

Basel, February 2016. The Davidoff Golf Scorecard Edition 2016 has been created with moments of shared golf pleasures in mind.

For this new edition, Davidoff Master Blenders decided to play the long game, taking adventurous, great shots. The cigars themselves have been designed like the most rewarding courses and are the perfect accompaniment, whether out on the course or back in the clubhouse.

“Sharing cigars and comparing scores is a treasured ritual of any round of golf. And as every scorecard has a story to tell, you will enjoy reviewing the tale of the tees with your friends (and rivals),whilst hopefully savouring one of the special Winners Cigars included. You will relish every nuance of these exclusive Gran Toros and be able to fill your scorecard as beautifully as your time out on the fairways,” explains Charles Awad, Senior Vice President of Global Marketing & Innovation at Oettinger Davidoff AG.

Tobacco profile

Olor/Piloto Seco
Format:  Gran Toro
Diameter: 2.2 cm; RG 55

The Blend
The majestic Gran Toro format of this Davidoff Golf Scorecard Edition 2016 allows the aficionado to enjoy the cigar’s intensive but balanced and nuanced taste over its entire length. The front nine delivers oaky, coffee notes, whilst the back nine brings it home with sweet honey tones.  This well balanced cigar with a firm ash has a perfect consistency and draw. When lighting it up, peppery notes are paired with an enjoyable creaminess, combined with flavours of hardwood, roasted coffee and salted nuts. The hardwood and the roasted notes are trading up in the second third with a beautiful added complexity deriving from the Dominican Mejorado tobaccos in the filler and the Piloto binder from the Martin Garcia zone. In the last third, aromas of a well brewed Darjeeling tea with a hint of honey are present, and the last puffs have a delightfully earthy character. A Single Malt Whiskey with an oak wood and fruity character would pair perfectly with this special cigar.

Finally, both the cigar pack (of five cigars), in an elegant white, and the second rings carry a golf pattern. The one cigar boasting a distinctive golden second ring serves to reward and honour the winner.

This Davidoff Golf Scorecard Edition 2016 will be available to cigar and golf aficionados at selected Appointed Merchants in the US, and at Depositaires/Davidoff Flagship Stores worldwide starting in March 2016, and in Asia in April 2016.
